Two Decades in the Trees: Why I Built WorkQuote

For over two decades, I have been deeply rooted in the tree service industry of Baltimore, Maryland. Since 1998, I have been on the ground, actively serving my community and, in the process, handwriting and digitally crafting thousands of estimates for valued customers. This hands-on experience has been my greatest teacher, revealing not only the intricacies of providing a competitive estimate but also the persistent challenges of running a service-based business.

I navigated the evolution of technology, experimenting with a multitude of estimating apps, each promising to streamline my workflow. While many offered advantages, I consistently encountered a frustrating trade-off. I could have a feature-rich application, but at a significant cost that often felt prohibitive for a small business. Or, I could find an affordable app, only to be hampered by its limitations.

The most significant hurdle I faced was the lack of true customization. The one-size-fits-all approach of most estimating software simply did not align with the dynamic nature of the work. I needed the flexibility to tailor my estimates to the specific needs of each job and client, a capability that was consistently out of reach. I found myself spending more time working around my software than working with it.

This is the soil from which WorkQuote grew.
